EA Sports FC 27 Crossplay: Supported Platforms Explained

EA Sports FC 27 supports crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S players in the current-generation matchmaking pool. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players are grouped separately in an old-generation pool. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions do not support FC crossplay with other platforms. That distinction matters when choosing a version to play with friends.

FC 27 is available on PC through the EA app, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The main online compatibility question is not simply which hardware someone owns, but which version of the game they are running.

Does EA Sports FC 27 have crossplay?

Yes. EA's FC crossplay support places players into matchmaking groups by platform generation. The current-generation group includes PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The old-generation group includes PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In practical terms, a player using FC 27 on PC can play with eligible players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PlayStation 5 player can play with Xbox Series X|S and PC players, provided crossplay is enabled and the selected mode supports it. A PlayStation 4 player can play against or alongside Xbox One players, but cannot enter the current-generation pool.

This is important for players on newer consoles who install an older version of the game. For example, PlayStation 5 can run the PlayStation 4 version, and Xbox Series X|S can run the Xbox One version. In those cases, matchmaking follows the version being played rather than the console's maximum capability. Running the old-generation version puts the player in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One pool.

EA Sports FC 27 crossplay platform groups

Current-generation crossplay

The current-generation crossplay group consists of the following platforms:

• PC through the EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store
• PlayStation 5
• Xbox Series X|S

This is the group to choose when most of a friend group plays on modern PC or console hardware. It also includes access to the version of FC 27 with The Grounds, EA's social football playground that connects activities such as Kickabouts, street football, and Clubs-related play.

For The Grounds specifically, EA confirms crossplay support between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The feature is not available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. EA also lists The Grounds, including Clubs, as available on Nintendo Switch 2, but Nintendo platforms are not included in FC crossplay support. Switch 2 players should therefore not expect to join PC, PlayStation, or Xbox friends through cross-platform matchmaking.

Old-generation crossplay

The old-generation group consists of:

• PlayStation 4
• Xbox One

Players in this group can play with and against others using the same generation of FC 27 version. This means a PlayStation 4 owner can match with someone playing the Xbox One version. It also means a player on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S can join this pool by deliberately launching the respective PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version.

Old-generation and current-generation versions do not mix. A person running the native PlayStation 5 version cannot crossplay with a friend running the PlayStation 4 version, even when both players own PlayStation hardware. The same separation applies between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One versions.

Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2

EA Sports FC 27 is available on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, but EA's FC support guidance says Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 do not support crossplay for FC. Nintendo players can play with other players on compatible Nintendo versions, but they cannot use FC crossplay to join the PlayStation, Xbox, or PC pools.

This is the clearest limitation to understand before buying the game for a Nintendo platform. Switch 2 has access to The Grounds according to EA's FC 27 edition information, while the original Switch does not. However, availability of a feature on Switch 2 does not make that feature cross-platform with PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S.

How to enable or disable crossplay in FC 27

Crossplay is enabled by default in EA Sports FC. Players can manage it through the game's social and online settings. EA's instructions place the control in EA Connect: open EA Connect from the main menu, enter Social Settings, select Cross-play, and then adjust the Cross-play Enabled option.

The setting is also available through the main menu's online matchmaking options. In Football Ultimate Team, it can be reached through the mode's matchmaking settings. Crossplay cannot be changed during an active match, so set it before queuing or inviting friends.

Leaving crossplay on is generally the practical choice for players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S who want the broadest available matchmaking pool. Turning it off limits matchmaking to players on the same platform environment, which may be preferable for personal preference but can reduce the number of available opponents and teammates.

How to play with friends on another platform

Crossplay requires more than owning a compatible version. Both players need an internet connection, current game updates, an EA Account, and the appropriate platform account. They must also be playing in the same platform-generation group. A PlayStation 5 player and an Xbox Series X|S player can potentially play together; a PlayStation 5 player and an Xbox One player cannot.

Use EA Connect to find and manage friends across supported platforms. The in-game menu supports cross-platform social functions in EA games, including EA Sports FC. Ensure that the EA Account is linked to the platform account before attempting to add a friend or accept an invite.

Not every online activity necessarily has identical crossplay options, so check the mode's matchmaking or invite screen before organizing a session. The Grounds has explicit FC 27 support for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S crossplay. For other modes, the game interface is the best confirmation of whether cross-platform invites and matchmaking are currently available.

Crossplay is not the same as cross-progression

Crossplay concerns who can play together. Cross-progression concerns whether progress and items transfer when moving between versions or platforms. These are separate systems, and FC 27 does not offer unrestricted progress sharing across every platform family.

EA confirms that Football Ultimate Team progress and content can transfer between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, or between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, when the same EA Account is used. That transfer includes Ultimate Team items, Coins, FC Points, match records, and leaderboard position. It does not transfer from PlayStation to Xbox, or in the reverse direction.

Progress in other modes is console-specific. That means progress in areas such as Online Seasons, Co-Op Seasons, Manager Career, Player Career, and Clubs does not transfer between console generations in the same way as Ultimate Team content. Players moving from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S should account for that before changing versions.

Can you upgrade from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S?

EA says FC 27 includes an upgrade path from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S at no additional cost. This is useful for players who begin on older hardware and later move to a newer console. Physical-disc owners need compatible disc-drive hardware to use a physical copy for the upgrade path.

The upgrade does not remove the generation split in online play. A player may have access to both versions, but the version launched determines the available matchmaking group. Install the native PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version to play with current-generation console and PC friends. Install the PS4 or Xbox One version only when playing with friends in the old-generation pool.

Which FC 27 version should you buy for crossplay?

For crossplay with friends on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, buy and install the current-generation version. This is also the required group for PC players and the core cross-platform setup for The Grounds.

For a group split between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the old-generation versions are compatible with one another. Players using newer consoles can still join that group by using the corresponding old-generation version, but they will lose access to the current-generation matchmaking pool while doing so.

Nintendo players should buy FC 27 based on the Nintendo-specific experience rather than an expectation of crossplay with PC, PlayStation, or Xbox friends. The game supports play on Switch and Switch 2, but neither Nintendo platform is part of FC's crossplay system.
