Fifteen years after the events of the original Alien film, Amanda Ripley—the daughter of Ellen Ripley—learns from Christopher Samuels, an android working for the Weyland-Yutani corporation, that the flight recorder from her mother’s ship, the Nostromo, has been found. It was located by the crew of the salvage vessel Anesidora and is now being held aboard Sevastopol, a remote space station owned by the Seegson corporation in orbit around the KG-348 gas giant. Samuels offers Amanda a place on the Weyland-Yutani team sent to retrieve the recorder, giving her a chance at closure about her missing mother. Amanda, Samuels, and Weyland-Yutani executive Nina Taylor travel to Sevastopol aboard the Torrens courier ship. They arrive to find the station damaged and communications offline. During an attempted spacewalk to investigate, debris severs their EVA line. Amanda is separated from the others and forced to enter the station alone. Inside Sevastopol, Amanda finds the Nostromo’s flight recorder—but it contains no data. She soon learns the station is spiraling out of control, with a deadly alien creature stalking the corridors. After reuniting with Samuels and Taylor, she meets Marshal Waits and his deputy, Ricardo. Waits explains that Anesidora captain Henry Marlow brought the alien to Sevastopol after his crew discovered the flight recorder near the LV-426 moon. There, they also found a derelict ship previously encountered by the Nostromo crew and a nest of alien eggs. While investigating the derelict, Marlow’s wife was attacked by a facehugger. She was rushed to Sevastopol for emergency treatment, but died after a chestburster emerged. Waits convinces Amanda to help contain the alien inside a remote station module. She succeeds, but Waits ejects the module from Sevastopol with Amanda still inside. As the module hurtles toward KG-348, Amanda uses a space suit to space-jump back to the station. When Amanda returns to confront Waits, Ricardo reveals that the station’s service androids have abruptly begun slaughtering the remaining crew, including Waits. Samuels tries to interface with Sevastopol’s controlling AI, APOLLO, to stop the rampage. The system’s defensive countermeasures kill him shortly after he opens a route for Amanda into APOLLO’s control core. In the core, Amanda discovers that Seegson has been trying to sell Sevastopol to Weyland-Yutani, and Weyland-Yutani ordered APOLLO to protect the alien at all costs. Amanda insists the creature is no longer on the station and demands APOLLO cease its activity, but the AI refuses, stating that “scheduled reactor scans are unverified.” At the reactor, Amanda finds an alien nest and initiates a reactor purge to destroy it. Ricardo later tells Amanda that Taylor was sent to retrieve the alien. Taylor freed Marlow in exchange for the location of LV-426, but Marlow double-crossed her and took her hostage aboard the Anesidora. Aboard the Anesidora, Amanda finds a message from her mother recorded after her initial report about the Nostromo, finally giving Amanda closure. Marlow attempts to overload the Anesidora’s fusion reactor to destroy Sevastopol and ensure no alien creatures survive. Taylor kills him in an attempt to reverse the overload, but she is killed by the resulting electric discharge. Amanda escapes just before the Anesidora explodes. The blast destroys Sevastopol’s orbital stabilisers, and the station begins drifting toward KG-348’s atmosphere. Amanda and Ricardo contact the Torrens for extraction, but a facehugger attaches to Ricardo, forcing Amanda to leave him behind. After reaching the exterior to help the Torrens detach, Amanda is surrounded by alien creatures and is ultimately blasted into the ship. Onboard the Torrens, Amanda discovers another alien has made its way onto the vessel. Cornered in the airlock, she ejects herself and the alien into space. Drifting in her space suit, Amanda is later awakened by a searchlight.
