About

Clannad follows Tomoya Okazaki, a high school delinquent in his final year of school. As he meets five girls and other people, he helps resolve their individual problems. This visual novel features a branching storyline with predetermined scenarios and player choices, focusing on the appeal of its five female main characters. Clannad was Japan's best-selling PC game at the time of its release and later appeared several more times in the national top 50.

Storyline

Tomoya Okazaki is a third-year student at Hikarizaka Private High School who lives with deep resentment. His mother died in a car accident when he was young, and his father, Naoyuki, turned to alcohol and gambling to cope. Their conflict escalated until Naoyuki dislocated Tomoya's shoulder. Unable to continue playing on the basketball team, Tomoya withdrew from others. His distant relationship with his father eventually leads him to become a delinquent. On his walk to school, Tomoya meets a strange girl named Nagisa Furukawa and wonders whether she even likes the school. He begins helping her, and over time, Tomoya finds his life moving in a new direction.
