Command & Conquer: Generals is set in the near future, where the United States and China join forces to fight the Global Liberation Army (GLA), a terrorist organization based in Central Asia. The campaign is told in chronological order through three perspectives: China first, then the GLA, and finally the United States. China: A GLA attack strikes a military parade in Beijing, ending with the detonation of a stolen Chinese nuclear warhead and the start of a GLA incursion into China. China mobilizes to stall and contain the invasion, but loses key sites including the Three Gorges Dam and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Shifting to the offensive, Chinese forces strike back against GLA strongholds and reach the group’s main headquarters in Dushanbe. China uses nuclear weapons to end the GLA’s offensive. GLA: Despite its setbacks against China, the GLA remains active across Central Asia and the Middle East. To rebuild its strength, it raids UN convoys and incites riots in Astana. The United States then enters the war, and a GLA renegade sides with China with the goal of destroying the organization from within. The GLA retaliates by attacking the Baikonur Cosmodrome and uses the facility to launch devastating toxin attacks on heavily populated cities. USA: The United States deploys forces to the Middle East, the Hindu Kush, and then Kazakhstan to finish the fight against the GLA. Even after suffering losses to ambushes and attacks, U.S. forces push the GLA back to its final stronghold in the Akmola Region. With Chinese support, the United States destroys the last GLA position, bringing the GLA’s reign of tyranny to an end.
