In an earlier time—your childhood, or perhaps that of your forebears—the mall ruled as the go-to place to shop. People of all kinds swarmed from store to store, buying tie-dyed fabric, greasy food, and novelty knives. Now the people are dead, and the corporate catacombs are silent, left to rats and cockroaches. Lately, though, something has stirred in the emptiness: flashes of too-bright color, flickers of wires and flesh, strangled electric sounds almost like screams. Brave or foolish souls have returned, drawn back by curiosity. The few who came back, amid their gibbering, frantic cries, spoke of change—storefronts selling wares they do not contain, advertisements that flicker at the edge of vision, and distant, echoing footsteps that seem to come from everywhere and nowhere in the dust-choked halls. Your town has one such decrepit mall, once a hopeful tourist destination, long since abandoned even by the teens who used to frequent it. Yet here you are, standing before it again for the first time in years. Lights flicker within, tinny music spills from disconnected speakers, and a phrase burns into your mind as if carved with a hot knife...

Drawn in by curiosity and rumors of those who returned broken, you enter dust-choked halls where ads flicker at the edge of your vision and footsteps echo from nowhere.
