Driver 2: Back on the Streets

Driver 2: Back on the Streets is an open-world driving and action game developed by Reflections Interactive and published by Infogrames in 2000 for PlayStation. A sequel to Driver, it follows undercover cop Tanner and his partner Jones as they investigate a crime syndicate. The game adds the ability to exit vehicles and explore on foot, with missions spanning four cities: Chicago, Havana, Las Vegas, and Rio de Janeiro. Gameplay blends story-driven objectives with free-roaming exploration.

Driver 2 spans four cities—Chicago, Havana, Las Vegas, and Rio de Janeiro—as Tanner and his partner, Tobias Jones, work to capture a moneyman who has double-crossed a crime lord. Known throughout the story as “Pink Lenny,” he is portrayed as a weasel in the opening cutscene. Lenny has betrayed Solomon Caine and is now working for Caine’s enemy, a Brazilian named Alvaro Vasquez. Tanner must track down and capture Pink Lenny, because Solomon Caine intends to kill him for the betrayal. Lenny’s actions have also helped spark a major gang war in Chicago. Meanwhile, the elusive Alvaro Vasquez—the leader of a tattooed Brazilian mob operating out of Rio—is shifting his business interests toward the mainland USA. Violence threatens to ignite across America when a U.S. crime lord’s money-man makes a deal with Vasquez, his greatest rival.
