Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy IX is the ninth main entry in the FF series. It returns to the franchise’s roots, featuring gameplay elements and references to earlier games throughout, alongside a medieval fantasy setting and a cartoon-like art style—a shift away from the sci-fi slant of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII.

Set on the planet Gaia, this story follows Zidane Tribal, a thief and member of a traveling thief troupe. Assigned to kidnap Princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII of Alexandria, Zidane instead joins forces with her and a band of allies. Together, they race to stop Queen Brahne and her ally Kuja, who are driving a war powered by an army of black mages.
