God of War III

Set in a brutal Greek mythology setting, God of War III is a single-player action game that puts you in the climactic role of Kratos, an ex-Spartan warrior driven by revenge against those who betrayed him. His quest takes him from the towering heights of Mt. Olympus to the dark depths of Hell, battling mythological creatures and solving intricate puzzles as he fights to destroy Olympus. Armed with double-chained blades and a range of new weapons and magic for this chapter of the trilogy, Kratos faces world-changing scenarios throughout his merciless campaign. Built on a new game engine with state-of-the-art visual technology, God of War III aims for a more realistic battlefield feel, featuring higher texture resolutions than God of War II on PlayStation 2, fluid and life-like characters, dynamic lighting effects, and a robust weapon system. Battles take place on a grand scale said to be four times larger than its predecessor.

Following the ending of God of War II, God of War III continues immediately with opening narration from Zeus about the rogue Kratos, who is “commanding” a small army of Titans rescued from the Great War using the power of the Fates. The Olympians rush to battle: Helios rides his chariot over Olympus, Hermes speeds across the peaks as Zeus watches, Hercules is ordered to lead troops into the fight, Hades leaps in and battles Titans in his giant form, and Poseidon uses aquakinesis to strike like a missile—delivering a killing blow through Epimetheus’s chest—before manifesting as a massive water being and summoning water horses called Hippocampi. With Poseidon emerging as the Titans’ greatest threat and moving to attack Gaia after decimating many Titans, Kratos confronts the God of the Sea. By drawing Poseidon into Gaia’s grasp, Kratos knocks a weakened Poseidon out of his divine form onto a separate platform. After a brief exchange, Kratos brutalizes Poseidon, gouging out his eyes and snapping his neck before throwing him into the ocean. Poseidon’s death triggers a cataclysm: the seas surge, ocean levels rise dramatically, and a flood appears to engulf the world, destroying nearly all of mankind except those atop Olympia.
