About

Godzilla: Battle Legends, known simply as Godzilla in North America, is a 1993 fighting game based on the Godzilla film franchise for the Turbo Duo. Developed by Alfa System and published in the United States by Hudson Soft, the game changes Godzilla's appearance depending on the film era associated with each opponent. For example, Godzilla uses his 1955 appearance when fighting Anguirus and his 1964 appearance when fighting Rodan. In single-player mode, Godzilla is the only playable character. Its sequel, Godzilla: Monster War for SNES, features fewer monsters while adding Biollante as a playable character and including Mothra.

Storyline

In Single Player Mode, Godzilla is the only playable character. Rather than selecting enemies for the player, each stage offers a choice between two foes. For example, the first stage lets players choose between Anguirus and Rodan. Every battle is based on the film that inspired it. Anguirus' stage, for instance, features Godzilla in his 1955 appearance, uses Godzilla's roars from that film, and takes place on the Osaka Castle grounds. Completing a stage awards points. Better performance, such as defeating an enemy quickly or finishing with more health remaining, earns a higher score. At Stage 6, players choose an opponent again, but can select from up to six choices depending on their score. Super X II is always available. Mechagodzilla 2 unlocks at 450,000 points, Biollante's Final Form at 500,000 points, Mecha-King Ghidorah at 550,000 points, Battra's Imago form at 600,000 points, and Super Mechagodzilla at 650,000 points.
