About
Grand Prix is a top-down Formula One time-trial racing game. Players drive an F1 car on one of four race tracks, each with a different difficulty level determined by course length, the number of cars and oil slicks, and the number of bridges to cross. The screen scrolls from right to left, while the player's car moves only along the vertical axis and loses some speed when maneuvering.
The joystick button serves as the throttle: pressing it accelerates and releasing it decelerates. Moving the joystick left applies the brake, while the transmission audibly shifts as the car changes speed. Other cars are obstacles rather than rivals for the finish line. The player's car can outpace them easily, but collisions reduce its speed below that of the car hit. Oil slicks cause a slight sideways skid without slowing the car.
Every scale mile, players cross a narrow bridge over blue water. Hitting either bridge wall stops the car, requiring the player to slowly regain speed before continuing.
Storyline
Grand Prix has no traditional narrative storyline. In this top-down Formula One time-trial game, drivers tackle increasingly difficult tracks while avoiding traffic, oil slicks, and narrow bridges in pursuit of faster times.
