About

Infamous is a single-player open-world action-adventure game starring Cole McGrath, an ordinary man who survives a horrific catastrophe and develops an extraordinary range of superpowers. Decide how Cole uses his new abilities: pursue revenge, protect the innocent, or balance both choices in Infamous.

Storyline

inFAMOUS is set in Empire City, a fictional metropolis inspired by New York City. The city includes the Neon District, where most businesses are located; the Warren, a slum reliant on international shipping; and the Historic District, home to the city government. Each district has its own elevated train system and power grid. The story begins after a mysterious explosion partially destroys the Historic District, followed by a viral epidemic that leads federal authorities to seal the city's only bridge to the mainland. Violent crime overwhelms the police, and society collapses. The protagonist, Cole MacGrath (Jason Cottle), is a courier accused of causing the explosion. It grants him the ability to absorb and project electricity. His closest friend, Zeke Jedediah Dunbar (Caleb Moody), lets Cole hide on his rooftop despite envying his powers. Cole's girlfriend, Trish Dailey (October Moore), leaves him after the death of her sister Amy, while much of Empire City sees Cole as a terrorist. When Cole and Zeke attempt to escape, FBI agent Moya Jones (Kimberli Colbourne) contacts him. She offers to clear his name if he finds her husband, fellow agent John White (Phil LaMarr), who vanished while investigating the First Sons, the group believed to have orchestrated the explosion. As Cole works to restore order in the Neon District, he encounters Sasha (Jessica Straus), a former First Sons member and a Conduit, an individual granted powers by the First Sons. She controls other people's minds through a tar-like substance and leads a gang called the Reapers. The Warren is controlled by the Dust Men, an army of homeless militants led by Alden Tate (also Jason Cottle), the original leader of the First Sons, who has telekinetic powers. Kessler (Sam A. Mowry), the game's true antagonist, is a shadowy figure who controls the First Sons and takes an obsessive interest in Cole and his abilities. The main story of inFAMOUS remains the same whether players follow the Good or Evil karma path, although some story details change based on Cole's choices. During a delivery in the Historic District, Cole is told to open his package. He activates the Ray Sphere, a device that levels six city blocks and nearly kills him. Zeke and Trish rescue him, and Cole learns to control his emerging electrical powers. After he publicly uses them to repel a Reaper attack, residents turn against him because he is blamed for the explosion, forcing him into hiding. Cole and Zeke launch an assault on the sealed bridge but are ambushed by government forces. Separated from Zeke, Cole meets Moya, who convinces him to return to Empire City and find John. With Moya's help, Cole restores power to the Neon District, attracting Sasha's attention. She draws him into her underground lair, where Cole defeats her. Before he can question her, however, the Sons abduct her. Stranded in the Warren, Cole helps the remaining police fight the Dust Men. Alden is arrested and imprisoned, but Zeke's poor attempt to guard him allows the Dust Men to free Alden and kill most of the officers. When Alden plans to reactivate the Ray Sphere, Cole and Zeke reconcile and confront him. Zeke gains possession of the Sphere, but gives in to its temptation, abandons Cole, and brings it to Kessler. As Alden launches a murderous assault toward the Historic District, Cole defeats him in a battle on a bridge. Before falling into the water, Alden reveals that Kessler exiled him from the First Sons. John White then contacts Cole and reveals that he is an NSA agent with no connection to Moya. He explains that the Ray Sphere consumes the bio-energy of thousands of lives and transfers it to one person, turning that person into a Conduit. While searching for the Sphere, Cole is publicly challenged by Kessler to stop a series of bombings across the district. The challenge ends with Cole forced to choose between saving Trish or her colleagues. No matter which choice he makes, Trish dies. Seeking revenge against Kessler, Cole tracks the Sphere to a remote pier and must choose whether to destroy it or use it to become more powerful. Either way, the Sphere releases its remaining energy, kills John, and disappears into a vortex.
