After a cataclysmic event stopped the Earth's rotation, the planet split into two extreme and deadly environments. Only a narrow band of space between the hot and cold halves has conditions capable of supporting life. This habitable band moves around the Sun at the pace of the planet's rotation, forcing all life on Earth to migrate with it in order to survive. To keep moving, the remnants of humanity have built nomadic machines, including a walking city called Flotilla. Every day, Flotilla carries more nomads into the passing oases, where warring clans fight fiercely for control of territory and valuable resources. Some nomads have secured lucrative positions and gained status within Flotilla, but most remain trapped in a daily struggle for survival, battling both nature and the people around them. For the men who built the walkers, there is no chance to rest; they can only keep moving forward.
