About

Mega Man X: Command Mission, known in Japan as Rockman X Command Mission, is a spin-off in the Mega Man X series. Released in 2004 for PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube, it was the second-to-last Mega Man X game released. Unlike other entries in the series, this RPG features turn-based combat and an extensive story. Its gameplay shares several similarities with Capcom's Breath of Fire series because the games share a development team. Chronologically, it is the Mega Man X game set furthest in the future, taking place in the twenty-third century during the 22XX period. However, it is set in an alternate timeline outside the main Mega Man storyline. The GameCube version can link with a Game Boy Advance, allowing the GBA to be used as a treasure-hunter locator. The PlayStation 2 version includes a Mega Man X8 demo.

Storyline

Prologue In 22XX AD, a mysterious mineral called Force Metal is extracted from fragments of a meteor that landed in the Pacific Ocean. Technology based on Force Metal revolutionizes Reploid engineering. The Federation builds Giga City, an artificial island near the meteor site, specifically to mine and smelt the mineral. The project proceeds smoothly until a group of renegade Reploids arms itself and begins a rebellion on the island. They expel all humans and demand that the government recognize Giga City as an independent Reploid state. The new Rebellion Army and its leader, Epsilon, are branded Mavericks for these actions. After the first Maverick Hunter team is annihilated or subdued by the Rebellion Army, Colonel Redips deploys a special unit consisting of X, Zero, and Shadow. Their mission is to arrest Epsilon and suppress the Reploid insurrection. Should they fail, the Federation will have no choice but to declare all-out war on Giga City and the Rebellion Army. Chapter 1: Infiltrate Giga City! X, Zero, and Shadow teleport to the outskirts of Giga City to investigate an energy reading in the Lagrano Ruins. A mysterious explosion separates the trio, but they continue toward the top of the structure. X and Zero reunite near the summit, where Hippopressor suddenly attacks them. They destroy it. On the roof, X and Zero find Shadow confronting Epsilon. As they move to arrest Epsilon, Shadow turns on them and reveals his true allegiance to the Rebellion Army. Rebellion cadres Scarface, Botos, and Ferham also appear, and the Hunters realize they have been led into an ambush. Zero attempts to strike Epsilon, but the cadres overpower him and send him flying with their attacks. Alone, X has no choice but to escape by leaping from the roof into the chasm below. Ferham starts to pursue him, but Epsilon stops her, knowing that X will return.
