Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat (2011) is a fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios. It is the ninth main entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise and serves as a soft reboot. Beginning during the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the story rewinds to revisit the earliest era of the series—retelling the events of the first three games. The plot follows Raiden, Earth’s divine protector, as he tries to alter Armageddon’s outcome by reaching out to his past self.

This story retells the events of the first three games in a new timeline. After the Battle of Armageddon, Shao Kahn has become the supreme leader of all the realms. Raiden receives a message from his prime-future self, triggering a plot that reshapes what happens next. Classic characters and familiar scenarios return in a refreshed context, bringing the old into the new and igniting a new conflict.
