About
Painkiller Black Edition includes the Battle Out of Hell expansion pack, featuring 10 additional single-player levels and many new villains.
Storyline
The story follows Daniel Garner, a young man happily married to his wife, Catherine. At the start, Daniel is about to take Catherine out for her birthday meal. While driving at high speed in pouring rain, Daniel takes his eyes off the road to look at her—and with his attention diverted, he crashes their car into a truck. Both are killed instantly.
Catherine makes it to Heaven and lives in harmony, but Daniel becomes trapped in Purgatory. One day, he meets an accomplice named Samael, who tells him that to earn purification he must kill four of Lucifer’s generals to prevent a war between Heaven and Hell. Lucifer has been secretly building a massive army that could overwhelm Heaven, taking over Purgatory in the process, and small parts of that army have already begun to march.
With little choice, Daniel accepts the mission. As Hell’s forces seize and corrupt areas of Purgatory, Daniel is drawn through different, random periods of history within Purgatory—ranging from ancient times to the modern era—including Medieval Europe, Babylon, the Crusades, the 1800s, and even a slice of modern industry.
