Pentiment is a single-player narrative adventure set in 16th-century Upper Bavaria. You follow Andreas Maler, a journeyman artist working in the scriptorium of Kiersau Abbey while social unrest grows around him. As he works to finish his masterpiece, Andreas becomes involved in murders unfolding across 25 years.

The focus is on investigating and interrogating people connected to the cases. Peasants, thieves, craftsmen, monks, nuns, nobles, and saints may all be part of the search for the truth.
