About

Sonic Classic Collection is a Nintendo DS compilation developed by The Creative Assembly Australia under the supervision of Sega Australia and Sega of Europe. It includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles (including Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Knuckles in Sonic 2). Sega of America officially announced the compilation on December 2, 2009, and it was released on March 2, 2010, after first surfacing via classification by Australia’s OFLC. It adds two lock-on modes from the originals, letting players play as Knuckles in Sonic 2 and play the complete version of Sonic 3 (titled "Knuckles in Sonic 3" rather than the original "Sonic 3 & Knuckles"). A save option is also included; while advertised as allowing you to save anywhere, you must restart the act where you saved, but you keep your score, Chaos Emeralds, and any extra lives and continues earned. The collection also features an image gallery. It was originally intended to include Sonic Spinball, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and Sonic 3D Blast, but none of the three appeared in the final release. Critics responded with mixed to positive reviews, and the game holds a 70/100 on Metacritic. Praise focused on the quality of the included games, while criticism noted the lack of multiplayer and that the included artwork was the only extra content.

Storyline

Sonic Classic Collection bundles four key adventures from the Sonic the Hedgehog series on Nintendo DS. Speed through classic side-scrolling zones as Sonic (and in select modes, Knuckles) to thwart Dr. Robotnik/Eggman, collect the Chaos Emeralds, and relive Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles.
