In a past version of Green Hill, Classic Sonic is running when a strange noise stops him in his tracks. A mysterious entity called the Time Eater appears in the sky, and everything is suddenly washed in white. In the present, Sonic is celebrating his birthday with friends when the Time Eater attacks, tearing open “time holes” that pull everyone in and scatter them across key moments from Sonic’s past. Sonic tries to fight back but is quickly overwhelmed. When he wakes, Sonic finds himself in White Space—a blank dimension where time and space end up after being “erased,” drained of color and life. He rescues his best friend Miles “Tails” Prower, and during their search they encounter versions of themselves from the past, known as their “Classic” selves. With both Tails realizing the Time Eater is damaging time and space itself, Classic and Modern Sonic race through their shared history to restore what was lost and rescue their friends. Along the way, they discover the Time Eater’s weakness: the Chaos Emeralds.
