Super Mario 3D World

Super Mario 3D World is a 3D platformer action game for Wii U and a follow-up to the Nintendo 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land. Building on its predecessor, it uses 3D levels shaped by classic 2D-inspired design: players race through linear stages under a time limit to reach the Goal Pole. A standout feature is simultaneous multiplayer. While not the first Mario game to offer it, Super Mario 3D World is the first 3D Mario title to support up to four players cooperating to reach the goal. Before each level, players choose from a roster of characters, each with a distinct playstyle that comes with strengths and weaknesses. The game also takes advantage of Wii U-exclusive features, including tapping blocks on the GamePad touch screen and blowing into the microphone to reveal hidden items and push away enemies. New power-ups debut as well, led by the signature Cat power-up, which enables a melee attack, wall climbing, and midair leaping—fitting the game’s overall cat-themed style.

While walking through the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, Toad, Peach, and Luigi discover one of the many green pipes—one that’s different from the rest. A fairy emerges, later revealed to be Princess Sprixie, but Bowser is close behind. He kidnaps her and escapes through the pipe. Mario and his friends jump in after them and arrive in the Sprixie Kingdom, where they must rescue the princess.
