Super Metroid

The Space Pirates—merciless agents of the evil Mother Brain—have stolen the last Metroid from a research station, and Mother Brain once again threatens the safety of the galaxy. In Super Metroid, bounty hunter Samus Aran must use her high-tech arsenal to recover the deadly Metroid hidden deep within the cave-riddled planet Zebes. This side-view action adventure features strong graphics, a wide variety of enemies, and multiple worlds to explore, along with new weapons and items such as the Grappling Beam for swinging across large chasms and the X-Ray Scope for revealing secret passages.

After Samus completes her mission on SR388 and eradicates the Metroid population as ordered by the Galactic Federation (except for the Metroid Hatchling she nicknames “Baby”), she delivers the Hatchling to the Ceres Space Colony for research. Soon after she leaves, a distress signal from the station draws her back to investigate. Arriving at the Space Science Academy where the Baby was being studied, Samus finds the scientists slaughtered and the Baby’s containment unit missing. As she explores further, she discovers the Baby in a small capsule—only for Ridley to appear and seize it. After a brief battle, Samus drives Ridley back, and he triggers a self-destruct sequence that will destroy Ceres. Samus escapes the explosion as Ridley flees to Zebes, and she pursues him.
