《Final Fantasy VIII（最终幻想VIII）》是《Final Fantasy》系列第八部正传作品。其玩法偏离了不少系列常规：虽然保留了 Active Time Battle（ATB）系统，但不再以传统“升级提升角色强度”的方式为核心——不过等级并未像《Final Fantasy II》那样被完全舍弃。它也移除了施法所需的 Magic Points（MP）。取而代之的是，魔法需要被收集、抽取（draw）并由道具生成，再通过 junction（接合）系统用于强化角色。
故事线
《Final Fantasy VIII》的舞台是一个带有强烈科幻元素的幻想世界。故事围绕斯考尔·莱昂哈特展开——他是巴拉姆学园培养的年轻SeeD佣兵，受雇执行高危任务。斯考尔与伙伴们被卷入一场支援“森林猫头鹰”的行动：这是一支由莉诺雅·哈蒂莉领导的反抗组织。而这项任务逐步升级，最终演变为对抗由女巫伊迪雅指挥的势力的更大冲突。
