《Resident Evil 2》是初代《Resident Evil》的续作。与前作相同，它是一款3D动作冒险游戏：多边形角色在预渲染的2D背景上活动，每个房间都采用电影化的固定镜头视角。玩家可在两位角色之间做出选择，他们共享相同的开场情境，但在流程中获得的武器与遇到的人物会有所不同。
故事线
故事设定在1998年9月29日，浣熊市被僵尸潮所吞没。一种名为T病毒（T-Virus）的生物武器被释放到下水道系统中，老鼠将感染扩散到全城人群。两位新人来到这里：莱昂·S·肯尼迪（Leon S. Kennedy），第一天上岗的新人警官；以及克莱尔·雷德菲尔德（Claire Redfield），为寻找哥哥而来的大学生。莱昂与克莱尔被卷入一场生存恐怖的求生之战：他们要对抗成群的怪物，在绝境中挣扎求生。
