Resident Evil returns to survival horror roots in a remastered version of the critically acclaimed Resident Evil. Set in Raccoon City, you play as S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) member Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, sent to investigate the missing Bravo team. After a sudden attack by mutated dogs, the team takes refuge in a mansion—but escaping alive won’t be easy. Explore dark, enclosed spaces, solve traps and puzzles, and manage limited ammo and survival items as you fight to endure the horrors within.

On July 24, 1998, a string of bizarre murders strikes the outskirts of the Midwestern town of Raccoon City. The Raccoon City Police Department’s Special Tactics And Rescue Service (STARS) is assigned to investigate. When contact with Bravo Team is lost, Alpha Team is dispatched to find them. Alpha Team discovers Bravo Team’s crashed helicopter and lands nearby, only to be attacked by a pack of monstrous dogs, killing one team member. Their pilot, Brad Vickers, panics and takes off alone, forcing the remaining members—Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, and Barry Burton—to seek shelter in an abandoned mansion, where they split up. Playing as Chris or Jill, you find members of Bravo Team in horrifying conditions: Kenneth J. Sullivan is being eaten by a zombie; Richard Aiken is either killed by a giant venomous snake or eaten by a shark; Forest Speyer is found dead and later reanimated as a zombie; and team leader Enrico Marini reveals that one of Alpha Team’s members is a traitor before being killed by an unseen shooter. Bravo Team survivor Rebecca Chambers joins Chris. As the investigation continues, the truth emerges: illegal experiments were conducted by a secret research group operating under the biomedical company Umbrella Corporation. The mansion and surrounding area are overrun with creatures created by these experiments, after personnel and animals were exposed to the highly contagious, mutagenic T-virus. The search leads to a hidden underground laboratory where Umbrella’s work continues. There, the player finds Jill or Chris held in a cell and confronts Wesker as he programs a Tyrant, a humanoid bioweapon. Wesker reveals he is a double agent working for Umbrella and intends to use the Tyrant to eliminate the STARS members. During the confrontation, Wesker is apparently killed and the player defeats the Tyrant. After triggering the lab’s self-destruct system, the player reaches the heliport and contacts Brad for extraction. The ending varies based on key choices: in the best ending, the surviving team members escape by helicopter after defeating the Tyrant again; in the worst ending, the mansion remains standing and the player character is the sole survivor.
